Perfect Pet Insurance
for your Pug
Your Pug is part of the family, and when something’s wrong you want them seen to quickly. We’re here to make your insurance choices simple, whatever your budget. Choose from a range of policies that come with vet-backed tools to support and guide you through the decisions that count. Pug insurance can help you with the veterinary costs for these common health conditions:
Brachycephalic Airway Syndrome (BOAS)
That flat face comes at a cost. Narrowed nostrils and a long soft palate can make breathing hard work for Pugs, especially in heat or excitement.
Eye problems
A Pug’s prominent eyes sit exposed, so ulcers, dry eye and scratches happen more than in most breeds, and they need seeing to quickly.
Skin Fold Dermatitis
Those lovely facial wrinkles trap moisture and bacteria, so the folds can get sore and infected without regular cleaning.
Neurological Disorders
Pugs can be prone to spinal and neurological problems linked to the breed’s build, from wobbly back legs to seizures. Anything sudden or odd warrants a prompt vet visit.

How much is pet insurance for Pugs?
Pug insurance can vary wildly, it could be as low as £15 a month or right up to £75 and beyond, there’s no standard Pug price, it literally depends on your dog. For a small breed Pugs do sit at the higher end though, and the flat face is most of the reason why. Treat every figure as a broad market estimate rather than our prices. Like French Bulldog insurance, Pug premiums carry the cost of brachycephalic health problems, breathing difficulties, ulcers on those lovely prominent eyes, and skin fold infections. None of these are cheap to treat and some need ongoing care, so the risk shows up in the monthly price. Your own quote depends on your Pug’s age and history, where you live, and the cover you choose. Starting young helps, before anything’s had the chance to count as pre-existing. And whatever their age, you can explore our insurance for dogs and see what fits, every situation really is its own thing.

Perfect Pet dog insurance for Pugs comes in four levels: Elite lifetime cover, Vital maximum benefit, Essential time limited cover and Accident Only. All four cover vet fees for new accidental injuries, and all except Accident Only cover new illnesses too, subject to the policy terms and waiting periods, 5 days for accidents and 14 for illness. Elite lifetime cover includes up to £5,000 of vet fees per condition, per year, and the limit refreshes each year you renew, so an ongoing condition like an eye ulcer that keeps recurring or a long-term skin problem can keep being treated, provided it first showed signs after your cover started. Vital covers each condition up to a fixed limit with no time limit, and Essential covers each condition for up to 12 months from when it was first noticed or treatment started, whichever comes first. Every level includes complementary treatments like physiotherapy when your vet recommends them, and all except Accident Only add third party liability and free 24/7 Vet Assist calls. The usual exclusions apply with any insurer: pre-existing conditions, routine care like vaccinations, and dental illness (dental cover is for accidents only). A £90 excess applies per condition, per policy year, and for dogs aged eight or over a 15% co-payment applies on top. The policy wording has the exact limits and terms.
Pugs make charming little companions, sociable, comical and devoted to their people. Like other flat-faced breeds though, they can be prone to some common health conditions, mainly around breathing, eyes and skin, and those can need ongoing care.
The decision to insure rests on your own situation, your budget and your comfort with risk, we’d never tell you that you must. Plenty start as pups, our puppy insurance takes them from 4 weeks old, and setting money aside instead is a fair alternative.
The breed itself, for a start, flat-faced dogs carry more risk, so premiums reflect that. Then age, your postcode, your vet’s rates and the vet fee limit you pick. Starting cover before anything appears on their record makes the biggest single difference.
Our policies cover new illnesses and injuries that first appear after your policy starts, subject to the policy terms, and that includes conditions Pugs are known for when they’re genuinely new. Timing is what counts, not the label: anything showing signs before the policy started, or during the waiting periods, is pre-existing and sits outside cover, with any insurer.
That’s why many Pug owners start cover young, before the breed’s usual suspects have a chance to appear on the vet record. The policy wording sets out exactly what’s included, worth ten minutes before you buy.
Insure more than one pet for the 15% multi-pet discount, pick a vet fee limit that fits, and use the included Perks & Offers, average savings of 57% on prescription meds through Hyperdrug add up for a breed that often needs ongoing bits and pieces.
Keeping your Pug lean genuinely helps their breathing and joints too, and the free 24/7 Vet Assist line is there for the 2am snuffles, no charge, no claim.
