Perfect Pet Insurance
for your French Bulldog
Your French Bulldog is part of the family, and when something’s wrong you want them seen to quickly. We’re here to make your insurance choices simple, whatever your budget. Choose from a range of policies that come with vet-backed tools to support and guide you through the decisions that count. French Bulldog insurance can help you with the veterinary costs for these common health conditions:
Brachycephalic Airway Syndrome (BOAS)
The Frenchie’s flat face narrows the airway from nose to throat, so many struggle to breathe freely. Snoring, snorting and struggling in heat are the everyday signs.
Skin allergies
Frenchies are prone to allergic skin disease, itching, redness and recurring ear trouble, often needing ongoing treatment to stay comfortable.
Intervertebral Disc Disease (IVDD)
French Bulldogs can be born with abnormally shaped vertebrae, which raises their risk of slipped discs and spinal pain. Bad cases can need surgery.
Eye problems
Those big, shallow-set eyes are easily scratched and prone to ulcers and cherry eye, where a tear gland pops out of place.

How much is pet insurance for French Bulldogs?
French Bulldog insurance varies more than almost any breed, it could be as low as £20 a month or right up to £90 and well beyond, it literally depends on your dog. Frenchies do usually cost more to insure than other small dogs, but there’s no single Frenchie price, every one is priced on their own details, and these are broad market figures rather than our prices. The reason is the breed’s health profile. Flat-faced breeds are prone to breathing problems (BOAS), skin fold infections and spinal issues, and the surgeries involved are some of the priciest in small-dog medicine. Insurers know it, so premiums reflect it. Our Pug insurance page covers their fellow flat-faced companion, who shares a fair few of the same quirks. What you pay still swings on the usual things, age, postcode, cover level, claims history, and starting cover before any conditions appear makes a real difference with this breed in particular. Compare our cover levels, then get insurance for your dog priced on their own details, that’s the honest number.

FAQs

Find out more about Perfect Pet insurance policies with these frequently asked questions.

Perfect Pet dog insurance for French Bulldogs comes in four levels: Elite lifetime cover, Vital maximum benefit, Essential time limited cover and Accident Only. All four cover vet fees for new accidental injuries, and all except Accident Only cover new illnesses too, subject to the policy terms and waiting periods, 5 days for accidents and 14 for illness. Elite lifetime cover includes up to £5,000 of vet fees per condition, per year, and the limit refreshes each year you renew, so an ongoing problem like a recurring skin allergy or ear infection can keep being treated year after year, provided it first showed signs after your cover started. Vital covers each condition up to a fixed limit with no time limit, and Essential covers each condition for up to 12 months from when it was first noticed or treatment started, whichever comes first. Every level includes complementary treatments like physiotherapy when your vet recommends them, and all except Accident Only add third party liability and free 24/7 Vet Assist calls. The usual exclusions apply with any insurer: pre-existing conditions, routine care like vaccinations, and dental illness (dental cover is for accidents only). A £90 excess applies per condition, per policy year, and for dogs aged eight or over a 15% co-payment applies on top. The policy wording has the exact limits and terms.
French Bulldogs make funny, affectionate little shadows, they want to be wherever you are. Like other flat-faced breeds though, they can be prone to more than their share of common health conditions, mainly around breathing, skin and the spine, and treating those can be expensive.
The decision to insure is yours and comes down to your circumstances and how you’d handle a big bill, we’d rather be straight about that than pushy. If you’d sooner self-insure with savings, that’s legitimate too, just decide while your Frenchie is well.
The breed is the big one, Frenchies carry more health risk than most dogs their size, and premiums reflect it. Beyond that: age, postcode, vet rates, the vet fee limit you choose, and what’s already on your dog’s record, which no policy can reach back and cover.
Our policies cover new illnesses and injuries that first appear after your policy starts, subject to the policy terms. Timing is what counts, not the label on the condition: anything showing signs before the policy started, or during the waiting periods, is pre-existing and sits outside cover, with any insurer.
That’s why many Frenchie owners start cover young. The policy wording sets out exactly what’s included, worth ten minutes with a cuppa before you buy.
Pick a vet fee limit that fits your budget, use the 15% multi-pet discount if you have more than one pet, and lean on the included Perks & Offers, prescription meds average 57% less through Hyperdrug, which adds up for a breed on ongoing treatment.
Weight management genuinely matters for Frenchies too, extra pounds make breathing harder, and the free 24/7 Vet Assist line means a vet nurse can look at that worrying snort on video before you book anything, no claim involved.
