Perfect Pet Insurance
for your Cocker Spaniel

Your Cocker Spaniel is part of the family, and when something’s wrong you want them seen to quickly. We’re here to make your insurance choices simple, whatever your budget. Choose from a range of policies that come with vet-backed tools to support and guide you through the decisions that count. Cocker Spaniel insurance can help you with the veterinary costs for these common health conditions:

Cockers are prone to dry eye, where tear production drops, often for immune reasons, leaving eyes sore, sticky and open to infection.

Those long, heavy ears cut airflow to the ear canal. Warm and damp is exactly what yeast and bacteria like, so infections tend to come back.

A busy spaniel nose in every hedgerow means grass seeds find their way into ears, paws and skin, and they burrow, so they rarely come out on their own.

Cockers are one of the breeds more prone to immune-mediated conditions, where the body turns on its own cells, from skin problems to blood disorders.

How much is pet insurance for Cocker Spaniels?

Cocker Spaniel insurance could be as low as £12 a month or right up to £50 and beyond, and that spread is the honest picture, it completely depends on your dog, their age, your postcode and the cover you go for. Cockers land mid-table on price. They’re a healthy-ish medium breed, but those gorgeous long ears are prone to infections, and skin allergies and certain eye conditions run in the breed too, the sort of things that need repeat vet visits rather than one-off fixes. Cover started early tends to cost less, a pup can be covered from 4 weeks, and because there’s no upper age limit, an older Cocker can start a policy at any age. If you’ve got the crossbreed version at home, our Cockapoo insurance page is the one you want. Prices shift at renewal as dogs age, and every figure here is a broad market estimate rather than our prices, so treat the range as ballpark and run a dog insurance quote for the detail.

Perfect Pet dog insurance for Cocker Spaniels comes in four levels: Elite lifetime cover, Vital maximum benefit, Essential time limited cover and Accident Only. All four cover vet fees for new accidental injuries, and all except Accident Only cover new illnesses too, subject to the policy terms and waiting periods, 5 days for accidents and 14 for illness. Elite lifetime cover includes up to £5,000 of vet fees per condition, per year, and the limit refreshes each year you renew, so something Cockers are prone to, like recurring ear infections or dry eye, can keep being treated year after year, provided it first showed signs after your cover started. Vital covers each condition up to a fixed limit with no time limit, and Essential covers each condition for up to 12 months from when it was first noticed or treatment started, whichever comes first. Every level includes complementary treatments like physiotherapy when your vet recommends them, and all except Accident Only add third party liability and free 24/7 Vet Assist calls. The usual exclusions apply with any insurer: pre-existing conditions, routine care like vaccinations, and dental illness (dental cover is for accidents only). A £90 excess applies per condition, per policy year, and for dogs aged eight or over a 15% co-payment applies on top. The policy wording has the exact limits and terms.

Cocker Spaniels make wonderfully affectionate family dogs, busy, soft-natured and happiest when they’re out with you. Like other spaniels though, they can be prone to some common health conditions, mostly around their ears, eyes and skin, and those tend to need repeat treatment rather than one-off fixes.

Whether insurance is right for you comes down to your own circumstances, your budget and how you’d rather handle an unexpected bill. Some owners cover the risk with a policy, it’s why many start early with puppy insurance, from 4 weeks old, and others set savings aside instead. Both are fair.

Age and vet history first, then the level of cover, your postcode and local vet rates. A young Cocker with clean ears costs less to insure than one already mid-treatment, because existing conditions don’t carry into any new policy.

Any time from 4 weeks old, and with no upper age limit at the other end our older dog insurance means there’s no cut-off either. The one thing worth knowing: cover reaches what starts after the policy does, so a summer of grass seeds or a first ear infection before then would sit outside it as pre-existing.

Choose the vet fee limit that fits, use the 15% multi-pet discount if you’ve more than one pet, and make the most of the included Perks & Offers, average 57% off prescription meds through Hyperdrug.

With this breed, prevention is half the game: regular ear cleaning and post-walk checks for grass seeds save real money, and our free 24/7 Vet Assist line is there when you’re not sure if it’s a vet job, without counting as a claim.
